Effect of diluent and storage time on sperm characteristics of rooster insemination doses

Posted on 3. March, 2015.

The increasing use of artificial insemination (AI) in the poultry industry emphasises the need for the distribution of good quality sperm. The assessment of semen quality characteristics of poultry birds gives an excellent indicator of their reproductive potential and has been reported to be a major determinant of fertility and subsequent hatchability of eggs.

Effect of low-protein diets with crystalline amino acid supplementation on egg production, blood parameters and nitrogen balance in laying Japanese quails

Posted on 26. February, 2015.

Several dietary strategies can be used to reduce N excretion in poultry manure, including the supplementation of synthetic amino acid to low-protein diets, the utilisation of hydroxy-analogues or keto acids of amino acids to supplement low-protein diets, or the concept of a dietary ideal protein ratio.

A highly selective fluorescent indicator for copper based on a boron complex

Posted on 26. February, 2015.

Fluorescent organic dyes have been widely used in metal ion detection as fluorescent probes of high sensitivity and selectivity that allow reduced sample volume. Various ions can be successfully detected with a corresponding fluorescent compound, examples being: diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives as fluorescent probes for Zn2+, 4‑aminoantipyrine for Al3+, and 4-(8-quinolyl)amino-7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole for Hg2+.

Mechanistic investigation of the electrooxidation of catechols in the presence of N-methylbenzylamine at room temperature:synthesis of new quinone derivatives

Posted on 25. February, 2015.

The term quinone refers generally to a 1,4 or 1,2-diketone formally derived from dihydroxy aromatic compounds in which the two carbonyl groups are connected by a system of conjugated double bonds. Naturally-occurring quinones have attracted attention, because of their bright colour with possible uses as dyes and as drugs.

Endophytes – the chemical synthesizers inside plants - A Free Review

Posted on 24. February, 2015.

Endophytes are microbial entities that live within living tissues of plants.
In most cases their relationship with the host plant is symbiotic and probably mutualistic. Many are capable of synthesizing bio-active compounds that can be used by the plant for defense against pathogenic fungi and bacteria. Some of these compounds have proven useful for novel drug discovery.

Biology of the gastro-intestinal tract in poultry

Posted on 24. February, 2015.

The gastro-intestinal tract is important for digestion and nutrient absorption. In poultry, it also poses major metabolic demands. For instance in the chicken, the gastro-intestinal tract represents only 1.5% of the body weight but requires 8% of the energy metabolised.
